With the historic building in disrepair Salt Lake City understandably opened a Request for Proposal. The Woodbury Corporation submitted a proposal that is now being reviewed. It seeks to turn the historic building into office space and construct a 7-story, 125-unit apartment building behind the Plunge building and also townhomes to the south.
This would put an end to public use of the historic building, dominate the park area, rule out the possibility of reactivating the only hot springs in the valley and turn this unique landmark site over to commercial interests in a way that would be irreversible.
While it’s true that the full potential of this place has yet to be realized in a modern context, it would be a tragedy to lose this historically significant resource to residential development.
